Day 10
A little boy noticed a sign in the window of the local pet store that read, "puppies for sale." As he entered he ask the owner, "How much are those puppies?" The owner smiled at the boy and replied, " The puppies are $25." The young boy reached into his pocket and pulled out 2 crumpled dollar bills with a handful of change and slapped it on the counter. "I have $2.75, could I please look at those puppies?" The owner smiled and went to the back of the store, shortly he returned with 5 puppies in tow, wagging their tales running and jumping excitedly. Then a straggler came out of the back room, and though his tale was wagging, he wasn't able to run and jump like the other pups because one of his legs was dragging. When the little boy saw that puppy he immediately scooped him up in his arms and announced, "I want this one!" The owner said, "Son you don't want that pup. He will never be able to run with you or play fetch like the other puppies can." But the boy was insistent, "This is the puppy I want." The owner replied, " Well son, if you're sure that's the puppy you want, I'll just give him to you." The little boy stood up holding the pup and glaring at the owner said, "This puppy is worth every bit as much as those other puppies. My $2.75 is on the counter and I'll give you $1.25 a week until I get him paid for." The owner smiled and agreed to the boy's terms. As the little boy was walking out the door the owner called to him one last time and ask, "Are you sure you wouldn't rather have one of the other puppies?"
The boy didn't say a word, he just reached down and pulled up one of his pant legs to reveal a metal brace. The owner smiled and said, "Well I guess that puppy needed someone that could understand him."
And that is exactly what Jesus did for us!
"Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people. Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested." Hebrews 2:17-18 NLT
Because Christ understands us, we don't have to be afraid, but with confidence can bring our requests before him.
"This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most." Hebrews 4:15-16
