Day 1 - Check Your Heart

READ Proverbs 1

The book of Proverbs is all about ‘first things first’. What comes first? An obedient, growing relationship with Jesus.

“the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7

Before you get the wrong idea, this is not saying that we need to be afraid of God; ‘the fear of the Lord’ is more about amazement, awe, and humility. In order to gain real understanding and wisdom from God, we need to first have hearts and minds that are in humble submission to God. If we do not lay this foundation first, then any wisdom or knowledge we gain will only cause us to think we are just so smart.

Knowledge may fill our brains, but without the fear of the Lord, it will never reach our hearts or change our lives.

First things first: check your heart. Are you living in humble submission to God? Or does your pursuit of wisdom and knowledge come from prideful motives?

PRAY today that the Lord would help you lay a foundation of reverence and humility as you seek His wisdom and knowledge throughout the Book of Proverbs.
